Özet: Bu araştırma, tekstil dışı malzemelerle tasarlanan giysilerin tasarım değeri kriterleri açısından incelenmesi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmanın evrenini, 2019- 2024 yılları  arasında düzenlenen “Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala (Met Gala)” etkinliklerinde sunulan tekstil dışı malzemelerle tasarlanmış giysiler oluşturmaktadır. Bu evrenden, amaçlı örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen dört giysi tasarımı araştırma kapsamına dahil edilmiştir. Çalışma, tarama modeline dayalı betimsel bir araştırma olup, veriler içerik analizi yöntemiyle elde edilmiştir. Giysi tasarımında kullanılan tekstil dışı malzemeler, kökenleri, işlenme düzeyleri ve yapısal özellikleri doğrultusunda; deri ve türevi malzemeler, işlenmiş doğal malzemeler, işlenmemiş doğal malzemeler ve petrol türevi malzemeler olmak üzere dört temel kategori altında incelenmiştir. Araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen “Giysi Model ve Tasarım Değeri Analiz Formu” aracılığıyla her malzeme grubuna ait giysi, model özellikleri, fonksiyonel ve sembolik değerler açısından analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, incelenen giysilerin malzeme türüne bağlı olarak çevresel ve kullanım temelli sınırlılıklar nedeniyle sürdürülebilirlik açısından olumsuzluklar taşımasına rağmen yüksek sembolik değere sahip olduğunu; ancak fonksiyonel değer açısından sınırlılıklar taşıdığını ortaya koymaktadır. Sonuç olarak, tekstil dışı malzemelerin giysi tasarımında yaratıcılığı, estetik görünümü ve sanatsal ifadenin gücünü artırdığı; ancak fonksiyonellik ve sürdürülebilirlik açısından tasarımcıların farklı disiplinlerle iş birliği içinde yenilikçi çözümler geliştirmesi gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
